Picasa’s red-eye detection/correction simply rocks. After trying/giving up iPhoto twice, I’m quite impressed with Picasa on the whole.

Microsoft support is comically bad
The other day I tried to install a copy of Windows XP. I had bought a copy (no, not the recovery disk that came with my computer, but a separate shrink-wrapped copy) years ago. It was installed on my old computer but I had gotten rid of that computer last time I moved and wanted to try it on a newer one. The install worked great until it was time to enter the product key. It said it was invalid. I...

How to uninstall Rubygems that are installed in...
With RubyGems (version 1.3.1 as of this writing), if you don’t have root access on a system, you can install gems to your home directory (the gems live in ~/.gem) In fact, if you just do: gem install <gemname> it will install it to your ~/.gem directory by default. This actually confused me at first, because older versions of Rubygems would try to install to the system-wide gems dir...

Hulu is rolling backwards
More and more old episodes seem to being removed from Hulu. It used to be that for many shows, you could find all the old episodes, but recently its seemed that you can only find some from the current season. For instance, as of this writing, you can currently only watch five episodes of The Office. I’m not privy to the inner workings of Hulu, but from the outside it seems like the Old...
